Following on from my research I was invited to run courses for receptionists in NHS young people’s sexual health clinics. This was on the basis that receptionists are ‘front of house’ and need to be welcoming and empathic with young people who visit their clinic. It can be a daunting prospect – specially for the first time – to attend a clinic for sexual health advice. If this could be you – or someone you know – you may well be feeling unsure, embarrassed, scared, etc.
The main focus in this training is on developing effective adult communication skills when talking with children and young ppeople, who may be presenting in ways which some adults find difficult to handle.
